How should I attempt to learn? Any recommendations for learning aids? There are no classes at my school.
If I study for an hour a day and listen to songs, watch tv and the like in Italian will I have a good grasp 2 and a quarter years from now? I don’t want to be fluent ( that takes time and I will try once I move), just be able to communicate.
Thanks.

Every time I have a question about Italian language I have to use yahoo answer which is a beautiful service, but it would be so much faster if I could just type quick questions here and there to people online instead. I am willing to also help with English as an exchange.

Cara mamma,
Vorrei vedere il film "Under the Tuscan Sun".
Me e ai miei amici vogliono andare a vedere domani a Roma, Piazza Della Repubblica. Portano le loro ragazze. Vado a chiedere al mio compagno di classe per andare a un appuntamento con me.
Dopo il film che vogliamo visitare un bar e una discoteca. Faremo ballare tutta la notte e godere il nostro tempo a Roma! Sarà quindi rientro in hotel e relax.
Me ei miei amici stanno avendo un sacco di divertimento qui a Roma. E ‘una bella città. Noi restiamo sicuri e ci manca New York. Non preoccuparti per noi!
Si prega di inviare dei soldi!
Con affetto.
Does it make sense? Its for an Italian class i recently enrolled in.

I was just reading up on stuff online. I know that most of the Mafia in America around the early 1900’s were Italian. But what I mean is, the mafia IN Italy or the mafia IN America. The settings are different.
What’s your opinion? Are there defining features of each kind, that make one more badass than the other, etc etc?
I’m just looking for story material and such.
Please tell me what you think! If you have resources that I could read, that would be cool.

Okay, here’s the deal:
I’m a jr. in high school. I am in the International Baccalaureate program at my school (which means i’m in all IB classes with the exception of theatre production co. which I will have 4 years of by the time I apply.
When I apply I will also have had 3 years of track (1 year of varsity), 5 math, 4 english, 5 science (3 years of lab if we’re not counting integrated physics and chemistry labs, 4 if we are), 4 years of spanish (i’m considered fluent by both my teacher and tutor) and be taking Italian 2, 4 years of history, officer in my theatre production co., officer in NHS as well as a 2yr. member, 2 year member of a community service club, LOTS of community service including work in an ICU burn unit and a job as a Senate Page.
I will also be an IB Diploma Candidate, with a 4.0 GPA (unweighted), and an SAT score of about 2160.
Other sports/interesting things about me would include – a decorated horseback rider, a decorated archer, and a piano and guitar player.
So, taking all that into consideration (i’m taking SAT subject tests and the ACT, I just haven’t done it yet) what do you think?
I also have legacy at UVA and will thus be considered an in-state student for acceptance purposes.
