im thinking about studying abroad in italy for a semester and then another semester somewhere else, preferably a spanish speaking country in latin america. i found this really great program specifically that im in love with. its mainly in rome but randomly takes you to london first for sight seeing. i have no clue why but im not asking questions!! theres a trip to venice and the orientation is in florence. on top of having the classes i need to take for my majors, theres a period before the semester begins when you have to take italian for 3 weeks. thats perfect! apparently italian is similar to spanish and my spanish is getting better everyday.im stoked to say the least : ]
anyway i was asking myself "how difficult would it be for a black vegan living in italy?" lol i know i could make it work those are just minor silly questions. so anyway what are some major differences in culture between italy and america?? oh and what are the seasons like? and time differences?
links would be cool too! i hate searching the web for stuff and i left my moms atlas (that goes in depth about history and culture) at home.

How do you say piano in Italian? I looked it up on a bunch of translation websites, but it said piano meant "the flat one". i thought it was called pianoforte, but i typed that in and that wasn’t it either.

I know the whole "slimy limey" (no offence to any Brits who may be reading thing is appealing and sexy – look at E.J. and Tony, also Jerry Jax on General Hospital. But still, wouldn’t it be cool if one of Stefano’s evil demon sons actually sounded Italian?

"Latin is an ancient Indo-European language originally spoken in Latium, the region immediately surrounding Rome."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latin
The Roman empire with all its culture and language encompassed the entire Mediterranean Sea….The Romans never set foot in South America
So just because the Spanish were conquered by the Romans and then the Spanish later on conquered South America, that makes anyone born in South America a "Latino"?
Would a "Latino" consider someone from Corsica or Croatia a Latino?….Maybe even someone from Tunisia or Libya?
————
Also from that same wikipedia article…
"Italian is generally considered the purest descendant of Latin in terms of vocabulary, though Romanian more closely preserves the Classical declension system, and Sardinian is the most conservative in terms of phonology."

I would really like to learn Italian =(
Reason why I am looking for:
1. a computer program or something to put on tv so I can listen and learn about the grammar and such….
2. a forum on the net so I can actually talk to Italian people and practice the language….
Does anybody have a recommendation on which software, book, or tv program I could use, or which websites to visit?…
Thanks! =)
