How does one learn multi-languages?

I want to be conversational in Japanese, German, French and a basic understanding in Latin and Italian.

My minor is Japanese so I have a basic understanding to it already… but I am scared that I am going to forget all very soon.

I plan to take German and French next semester and I want to know is it hard to take two languages at once?

I don’t want to be fluent just conversational, thank you.

Any good software programs or website? Anything is fine. recommendation? tips?

p.s. Just curious… please list the languages that you know, I want to know how many people can speak more than two languages.

Should I learn Italian or French?

I speak English, Spanish, and am conversational with Brazilian Portuguese… In a few months, after I have developed more of a base with my Portuguese, I plan to start learning another language, but I am not sure which one I should learn…

I like both Italian and French, and will probably learn these two languages and then just increase my level of fluency in all 5 languages once I am done…

So I am asking the community, with my current language skills, which one should I start to learn first? Which one gives me a better introduction to the next?

My boss has allocated me to service our Italian clients. He says I need to learn conversational Italian if I want to get a promotion. I’m desperate for a pay increase but I hate to learn language.

Please recommend books and/or CDs for very, very beginning level conversational Italian. Please include links if you have them. Grazie! Ciao!

I’m looking for tips on what to teach him, he knows a few words already, but i’m trying to get him to be more conversational and help his pronunciation, and i’m pretty sure he can’t read, so it’d be all speaking.

i’m looking for tips on exactly what to teach him (i was thinking basic ways to give personal information, and ask others about theirs, like names, addresses, age and so on and numbers, months, days, all that jazz) and also fun activities to keep him interested!!!!!!

any ideas are welcome!! thanks!!!

Tattoo: Italian Translation?

I really need help with this: one of my favorite movies is ‘The Tiger and the Snow’, it’s a Benigni film, and not a very well known one, so I can’t find an italian script transcript anywhere!

I want to get a tattoo of one of the Jean Reno quotes from it, but I can’t really figure out what he’s saying, cause he’s very fluent and very fast! :P

The quote is "Every person is a chasm, it makes you dizzy to look down."

My brother is is conversational in Italian, and he THINKS it’s "Ogni persona è un abisso, ti fa vertigini a guardare verso giù."

I’m getting this ink’d, so I need to be sure, so if anyone can tell me what it is in italian, or correct this translation, that would be amazing. :)

Please no online translators, already tried it!

Thanks!

College of Marin question?

Hi. Well I am interested in taking the Language Class for Italian"Conversational Italian: First Year, First Quarter" at College of Marin. Here is the problem. I am 13 years old. Can I still attend but will I be like the only kid there? Thanks

I’m a twenty-four year old graduate (Magna Cum Laude) with a degree in English Writing. I have no teaching experience, nor have I taken Praxis. I am interested in teaching english abroad, though, and am considering a number of accredited programs. Although I can afford such a course, I can’t afford to be out of work for another year – in fact, I’ll be close to broke upon completion of any program that costs several thousand dollars. I’m not particularly interested in programs such as JET and Nova, nor do I plan on spending my time abroad drinking and trying to impress local girls with my nationality. I’m simply trying to find a career, do my job, and get by, because things sure aren’t working out for my ‘career’ in America. My question is, given the current state on the world economy, what are my odds of finding some degree of stable work in the international TEFL field, particularly since the onset of the recession. I’m sure there are plenty of other young (and naive) Americans in my situtation and, given the nature of the already questionable hiring practices of a number of institutions where I would be seeking employment, what are my odds of actually finding stable, honest work? I can speak conversational Italian, although I’m sure many romantic Americans have flooded that market. Eastern Europe seems to be the proving ground for TEFL instructors. I understand that it may take months to find placement but as long as my odds are good of actually finding work, I can accept that. It’s either teaching or military OCS for me and, given how long it takes me to run a mile even after training, Iraq probably wouldn’t even have me. So, what are my odds with CELTA/Trinity?
