I took a year of Spanish in school (1/2 a semester of Spanish 1 and 1/2 a semester of Spanish 2. Both courses are full courses, but just smooshed together. lol!) and I did really well in them. I liked Spanish, but I just wasn’t that…attracted to it.
Italian, though, really interests me. From listening to them speak in The Godfather, I was able to occasionally pick out individual words and I could figure out what some of the words meant when they didn’t put the subtitles up.
Anyway, I was wondering if Italian is really as easy as everyone says it is. And if it is, I wanted to know what’s the best program to buy in order to learn. I don’t have anywhere or anyone that I can go to in order to learn. Just the internet, my ears, my eyes, and my brain. lol!
I heard the following were great programs to use. Have you ever used any of these?
Rocket Italian (by Rocket Languages)
Rosetta Stone
Pimsleur
Out of those, Rocket Italian is cheapest. What should I be willing to pay for an Italian self-taught course?

I want to learn italian but I am not sure where to start. What is the best way to get me started on becoming a fluent speaker? Would it be better to take a class through college? Or rosetta stone or pimsleur? I have a friend who speaks it fluently so I would be able to get his help and advice when I need it. Thanks

If i’ve finished pimsleur 1,2,3 for italian. i’m not sure where to go from there. I want to learn more advanced italian in the same sort of style but i don’t want to use pimsleur’s italian plus, which i was told was basically all publishing terms etc. Anyone have any suggestions for more advanced italian in a similar style?
thanks

any random advice on how to move overseas??? I would like a book or website that tells me everything that I need to take care of before moving …i just feel a little overwhelmed. I want to go by myself. I was thinking of couchsurfing to either london, italy, or france and then getting a job…going from there. I am going to get rosetta stone and pimsleur to help me learn italian and french.

Okay, so I really want to learn Italian. I was thinking about getting a computer program, but I don’t know which one to get. I was looking at Rosetta Stone, Pimsleur, and Berlitz. In y’all’s opinion what it the best?

I’ve just started the pimsleur Italian and I’m wondering if I should finish the 3 levels before moving on to conventional grammar books or should I do both at the same time. At what level does the pimsleur method leave you btw?

I am using pimsleur cds for mandarin, italian and german. For the first two languages I have help from speakers who can speak that language however for German I have no help just the cds, do you think its possible to study 3 languages and how long do you think it takes? I heard it will take 1000 hours to learn a language properly.
Many thanks

I am looking in investing in either pimsleur, learning Spanish like crazy, or rosetta stone? They all carry a heavy price tag, but I figured knowing a language is something I can't pay enough for. Also I did recently learn Italian, not fluently and I know that the two languages are NOT the same, but I just want a way to learn Spanish without feeling that it is TOO easy.
AND…I would want to know conversational language, so that I can interact, it is not for school purposes.
thanks

I want to learn a new language. First- Pimsleur, Tell Me More, or Rosetta Stone? I have looked at all of these language teaching softwares and I can't decide which one to get.
Another thing- I can't decide which language to learn. Italian(im going to Italy in june for a few weeks and i want to be able to communicate with the people) French(I've always wanted to know French because i think its very useful.) German, again its useful, or Hatian– Hatian seems like such a beautiful language and i really want to learn it, but im not sure if it would be useful at all, because i live in texas.

I'm trying to learn Italian and I have tried a few programs, but I don't want to go through one completely, only to find that I can't do what I want to do. (i.e. read, speak, write, everything)
I've tried Pimsleur through lesson 5, but wasn't sure because it lacks the reading/writing aspects. I tried TeLL Me More, which I didn't seem to be learning from, as I constantly had to translate everything on the page and look up conjugations. I recently got the level 1 of Rosetta Stone as a gift, but haven't tried it, though I hear it is great. Lastly, I've been hearing about the Rocket Language program, which I have heard nothing but good review from, despite its cheaper price tag. It's not that I want to learn the language fast; I want to know it thoroughly.
Which of these are the best? Or perhaps another program? Money isn't much of a concern at the moment, because this is something I really want and am willing to give anything for.
Thanks for any help.
