I took a year of Spanish in school (1/2 a semester of Spanish 1 and 1/2 a semester of Spanish 2. Both courses are full courses, but just smooshed together. lol!) and I did really well in them. I liked Spanish, but I just wasn’t that…attracted to it.
Italian, though, really interests me. From listening to them speak in The Godfather, I was able to occasionally pick out individual words and I could figure out what some of the words meant when they didn’t put the subtitles up.
Anyway, I was wondering if Italian is really as easy as everyone says it is. And if it is, I wanted to know what’s the best program to buy in order to learn. I don’t have anywhere or anyone that I can go to in order to learn. Just the internet, my ears, my eyes, and my brain. lol!
I heard the following were great programs to use. Have you ever used any of these?
Rocket Italian (by Rocket Languages)
Rosetta Stone
Pimsleur
Out of those, Rocket Italian is cheapest. What should I be willing to pay for an Italian self-taught course?

technically i beleive in a higher power which could be called God but really it appears to be mafia which one dictionary described as basically anyone with a godfather. whether this is true or not i don’t know because italians seem to want a monopoly on everything. so good luck enjoy a laff at my musings.

How do you feel about Italian-Americans and stereotypes? As in, you see on television the Rachael Ray types who act as if they are the quintessential Italian and movies such as The Godfather and all that, how does it feel seeing Italian-Americans and wannabe Italians (those who are like a drop Italian but talk and act as if they are one of them).
If you’ve visited the USA, have people ever assumed you to be one of those types? What would you in your own words say is the difference between Italians from Italy and life there versus Italian-Americans?

I love Italian-American characters like Joey Tribbiani from Friends, The Fonz from Happy Days, George Costanza from Seinfield, Rocky Balboa, Don Corleone from the Godfather and of course Tony Soprano.
I havnt seen any Italian-American characters in any TV Shows or Movies except for an Italian mobster in American Gangster.
Does anyone know of any recent ones that are out in the movies or new releases on DVD ?
Thanks in advance.

Tonight I have to go carry a flag in this Italian Feast. Tonight is just carrying it into a church. I am gonna be in the front carryin a flag and everyones gonna be lookin at me. At least there will be another kid carryin another flag with me. Im holdin the American and hes holdin the Italian. I dont know who he is though. I have no idea what im supposed to do with the flag and where do i put it and all that stuff, i hope they will tell me. Then tommorrow i have to lead the procession through the streets for the day and there the whole city will be lookin. What do I do? I have to do this cuz my godfather is like the president of this thing and he said he wants me to do it and i couldnt say no so i had no choice. its supposed to be an honor to carry the flag but its gonna be so embarrasing. Rai the italian television station is even gonna be there and this is gonna be shown in Italy and someone from the sopranos is gonna be there too. What do I do?
